It refers to an apartment which is very small, typically below 500 sq ft. This is about the size of a standard hotel room here.
Many Hong Kong apartments are almost shoe-boxes; Tokyo too.
Some developers who bid high prices for sale sites, are planning to build shoe-box units, adding to the build up.
A shoebox unit is not the same as a 3 room flat. So please go in with eyes open.
1)Young people would love to move out from their nagging/annoying parent's place & live in a place jus like that again.
Guess it's size ! 500 sqft= 20x25ft : 420sqft= 20x21ft : 388sqft=19x19ft
